lebanon valley college neidig garber science center addition

The project involved the complete renovation of the existing 62,000 sq. ft. four story Neidig-Garber Science Center and the addition of approximately 5, 000 sq. ft. of new classroom/laboratory space. New mechanical system strategies have been developed for the outdated facility in an effort to dramatically improve the safety comfort and flexibility of the Science Center. Additionally, the mechanical concepts necessitated the ability to satisfactorily phase the mechanical construction so that the facility could continue to be utilized during the construction process.

The facility contains all of the undergraduate science programs for Lebanon Valley College including biology, biotechnology, chemistry and physics and a three story atrium. Related student workrooms, faculty research and office suites are also included in the building program. The science facility contains over 50 laboratory fume hoods and thus, energy recovery systems have been incorporated into the central air distribution systems and a variable air flow constant face velocity design is utilized for the fume hood exhaust. This design approach promotes energy conservation while ensuring that laboratory safety is maintained.
